Trekking and Climbing Equipment List for Nepal

Proper preparation ensures comfort, safety, and an enjoyable trekking or climbing experience in Nepal. Please review the checklist carefully.

? Clothing (Layering System – Essential)

  • Waterproof & windproof outer jacket (shell)
  • Insulated down jacket (for cold mornings and evenings)
  • Fleece or softshell jacket (mid-layer)
  • Thermal base layers – top & bottom (moisture-wicking)
  • Trekking pants (quick-dry recommended)
  • Warm woolen hat (beanie)
  • Sun hat or cap
  • Neck gaiter / buff
  • Waterproof outer gloves
  • Warm inner gloves (thermal or fleece)
  • Trekking socks (wool or thermal – multiple pairs)

  • Comfortable trekking boots (well broken-in before arrival)
  • Lightweight camp shoes or sandals
  • Gaiters (optional but highly recommended for snow or dusty trails)

  • Daypack (25–35 liters) with rain cover
  • Trekking poles (highly recommended)
  • Sleeping bag (rated between –10°C to –15°C)
  • Headlamp or torch with spare batteries

✈️ Important Travel & Arrival Information

  • Airport Arrival:
    A HAD representative will be present at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu, to welcome and assist you upon arrival.
  • Flight to Lukla:
    Direct commercial flights between Kathmandu and Lukla are not available.
    Travel is routed via Ramechhap Airport.
  • Road Transfer:
    The drive from Kathmandu to Ramechhap takes approximately 3 hours.
  • Helicopter Option (Optional):
    If you prefer a direct flight between Kathmandu and Lukla, helicopter services can be arranged at an additional cost.
