Ama Dablam Expedition (6,812 m)

Join a guided expedition to Ama Dablam (6,812 m), one of the most iconic and striking peaks in the Himalayas. The expedition begins in Kathmandu with orientation and preparation, followed by a scenic flight to Lukla and a trek through the Khumbu Valley, passing Sherpa villages, monasteries, and spectacular mountain scenery.

Climbers establish Base Camp and make staged ascents through high camps with careful acclimatization. The expedition is led by experienced Sherpa guides and supported by a professional logistics team. Technical climbing support, fixed ropes, and high-altitude safety measures are provided, with supplemental oxygen available if required.

This expedition is designed for experienced high-altitude climbers. It focuses on safety, proper acclimatization, and a structured approach to the summit. Climbers enjoy panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and surrounding peaks, making Ama Dablam a challenging and unforgettable Himalayan adventure.

32 Days • Itinerary Overview

Day 01

Arrival in Kathmandu (1,400m)

Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be met by our representative and transferred to your hotel in Kathmandu. After check-in, the remainder of the day is free to rest and recover from international travel. In the evening, a welcome meeting will be held to introduce the expedition team and outline the upcoming program.

 

Day 02

Sightseeing and Expedition Preparation in Kathmandu (1,400m)

This day is reserved for cultural sightseeing and expedition preparations. You will visit UNESCO World Heritage Sites such as Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa, and Swayambhunath. Meanwhile, the expedition team will complete permit processing, climbing documentation, and final equipment inspections. A detailed expedition briefing will be conducted in the evening.

Day 03

Fly to Lukla (2,845m) and Trek to Phakding (2,610m)

An early morning flight takes you to Lukla, offering breathtaking views of the Himalayas. After meeting the trekking and climbing support team, the trek begins with a gentle descent along the Dudh Koshi River to Phakding. This short trek is ideal for beginning acclimatization.

Day 04

Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,440m)

Today’s trek follows the Dudh Koshi River, crossing several suspension bridges and passing through Sagarmatha National Park. A steady uphill climb brings you to Namche Bazaar, the main Sherpa trading hub of the Khumbu region. If the weather is clear, first views of Ama Dablam and Everest may be seen along the trail.

 

Day 05

Acclimatization Day in Namche Bazaar (3,440m)

A full rest and acclimatization day in Namche Bazaar. You will take an optional hike to Everest View Hotel or Syangboche Airstrip for acclimatization and panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and Thamserku. The afternoon is free for rest, hydration, and final gear adjustments.

Day 06

Trek from Namche Bazaar to Deboche (3,770m)

The trail follows a scenic contour path above the Dudh Koshi Valley with magnificent mountain views. After descending to Phunki Tenga, the route climbs through rhododendron forests toward Deboche, located near the famous Tengboche Monastery. This peaceful village lies beneath the impressive south face of Ama Dablam.

Day 07

Trek from Deboche to Ama Dablam Base Camp (4,570m)

Leaving the main Everest trail, you trek up the Imja Valley toward Ama Dablam Base Camp. The landscape becomes increasingly alpine as you approach the mountain. Upon arrival, the expedition team establishes Base Camp beneath the dramatic southwest ridge of Ama Dablam. The afternoon is spent resting and organizing climbing equipment.

Day 8-24

Day 08 – Day 24: Ama Dablam Climbing Period

This period is dedicated to the ascent of Ama Dablam via the Southwest Ridge, widely regarded as one of the most beautiful and technical climbs in the Himalayas.

The climbing program typically includes:

  • Fixed rope training and technical refreshers at Base Camp
  • Load carries and acclimatization rotations to Camp I (~5,700m)
  • Progression to Camp II (~6,000m), located below the Dablam (hanging glacier)
  • Weather monitoring and rest days at Base Camp
  • Summit push from Camp II during optimal weather conditions

The summit day involves exposed ridge climbing, snow and ice sections, and steep fixed ropes. From the summit (6,812m), climbers enjoy spectacular views of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and the entire Khumbu region. Safety, acclimatization, and weather conditions dictate the exact schedule.

Day 25

Trek from Ama Dablam Base Camp to Namche Bazaar (3,440m)

After completing the climb, the team descends from Base Camp, retracing the route through Deboche and Tengboche before reaching Namche Bazaar. Returning to lower altitude brings immediate comfort and recovery.

Day 26

Trek from Namche Bazaar to Lukla (2,845m)

The final trekking day follows the familiar trail along the Dudh Koshi River to Lukla. In the evening, a farewell celebration with the Sherpa and trekking crew marks the successful completion of the expedition.

Day 27

Fly from Lukla to Kathmandu (1,400m)

An early morning flight returns you to Kathmandu. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is free for relaxation, souvenir shopping, or enjoying Kathmandu’s restaurants.

Day 28

Final Departure

After breakfast, you will be transferred to Tribhuvan International Airport for your international departure, concluding your Ama Dablam Expedition.
